Privacy Policy

What we collect
Your email and password (hashed, never stored in plain text); onboarding answers (name, goal, why you started, field, general location); journal entries and mood/kind tags; projects, milestones, and to-dos; chat messages with your AI companion; and basic account metadata (plan, group, timestamps, device/network fingerprint used only for login security).
What's encrypted
Your onboarding goal and “why you started” answers, journal entry text, and chat messages (including the AI's replies and its reasoning) are encrypted at rest with AES-256. This protects that content against exposure from a raw database backup or leak. It is decrypted only when the app needs to render it back to you or pass it to the AI provider on your behalf.
AI processing
To power the companion feature, relevant content (your profile, recent entries, milestones, and chat history) is sent to whichever AI provider is configured for your plan or your own API key. This is the one point where your content is necessarily decrypted and leaves our database, since the AI provider needs real text to respond to. We don't send this content anywhere else.
Content safety screening
Onboarding submissions are automatically screened by an AI classifier for genuinely harmful, unethical, or illegal content, and for claims of ownership over Foothold Life itself. This screening reads the text you submit to make that determination; it isn't stored separately from your onboarding answers.
What the admin panel can see
Admins can see account-level information relevant to support and security: email, verification/ban status, plan/group, newsletter preference, and aggregate activity counts — never the actual content of your entries, onboarding answers, or chat messages.
Cookies & sessions
We use a session cookie to keep you logged in, and an optional “remember me” token if you choose it. We don't use third-party advertising or tracking cookies.
Your rights
You can request a copy of your data or full account deletion at any time by contacting us. Deletion removes your account and associated content from active use (some records may persist briefly in backups before rotating out).
